Mark F. Thomann, Venture Partner, Distressed IP Transactions

Mark Thomann, Venture Partner, combines extensive business transaction experience with intellectual property expertise. Mark is a leading IP transaction expert who has helped to optimize the assets of clients in many industries. Prior to joining Pluritas he served as Chief Executive Officer of River West Brands, LLC, a leader in acquiring, licensing, redeveloping, and monetizing underutilized iconic trademarks/brands.

Mark has more than 15 years of experience valuing, structuring, and consummating complex financial transactions. He was a managing director and head of corporate Finance at ICMB Ocean Tomo, an IP merchant bank, and founder and President of The 363 Group, for which he provided financial advisory services in distressed situations and workouts.

At River West Brands, Mark oversaw the brand transaction and monetization process which included analysis of thousands of brands, managing the acquisition of many of them with innovative strategies and structures; and stewarded over a dozen brands from dormancy to commercialization. Additionally, he developed and managed relationships with River West's key strategic partners, including many Fortune 50 brand owners and major retailers; led the process that resulted in a strategic investment from Omnicom Group (NYSE: OMC), a $14B holding company comprised of marketing firms; and oversaw the formation and funding of five new brand ventures.

Mark is a frequent speaker on the topic of monetizing brand and trademark-related assets. He has been cited as an expert by a wide range of media, including NBC's Today Show, The Chicago Tribune, Chicago Public Radio, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Fast Company, Crain's Business Chicago and BBC Radio. In addition, he is frequently a guest lecturer on the topic of Intellectual Property at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Mark received a B.A. from the College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He is currently an author of “Maximizing the Value of IP Assets in a Distressed Situation” for the American Bankruptcy Journal’s newsletter on Asset Sales. and member of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) asset sale and intellectual Property Committees.
